Welcome to Falls Lake State Recreation Area!  This was the fifth state recreation area in North Carolina.  This beautiful park is home to seven parks or access areas located around Falls Lake.  You will find some of the best hiking and biking trails here.  And there is wonderful spaces for tent or RV camping with over 300 campsites.  There are swim beaches, kayak rentals, and great fishing holes.  Enjoy all this lake has to offer!

Park hours and closures do vary with the seasons so please check NCParks.gov website or contact the park directly for official hours.

Please be aware there is an entry fee into the parks on a per car basis.  This entry fee is charged during the summer months and on most holiday weekends.

Beaverdam Area

The Beaverdam Area is our favorite park on the lake due to the beauty and myriad of things to do in this park.  This is a day use area only.  You can find many beautiful spots to picnic within this park.  Just bring a picnic lunch or dinner and find a table under the shade trees.  Then you can look out over the peaceful lake and enjoy your time outdoors.

Another highlight of Beaverdam Area are the miles of mountain biking trails that traverse the park.  There are over 16 miles of bike trails that travel through the forest surrounding the lake.

B.W. Wells Group Campground

The B.W. Wells camping area is for group camping only.  Bring your scout troop or other small group to camp in this area.  There are 11 group campsites within the area.

Holly Point Recreation Area

Holly Point is one of the best campgrounds on Falls Lake.  This campground contains over 85 campsites with water and electric and over 40 primitive campsites without and electric.  You will find some campsites right on the edge of the lake and plenty of sites with lake views.  This is a beautiful campground you really should check out.

Highway 50 Area

The Highway 50 Area is a popular boat launch location.  There are some picnic tables within the park area if you wanted to picnic, but this is primarily used as a boat ramp and parking area.

Rolling View Area

Rolling View is a wonderful campground and day-use area on Falls Lake.  This is the second largest campground on the lake with over 50 campsites with water and electric and over 30 basic campsites without water and electric.

There are great hiking trails in the Rolling View Area including a portion of the famous Mountains-to-Sea-Trail.  There is also a marina within the park.

Sandling Beach Area

The Sandling Beach Area is one of the best day use areas on the lake.  This area is not open year-round so please check with the park before visiting.  The primary use for the area is the beautiful beach and swimming area.  You will find restrooms, picnic tables, and hiking trails within the park.

Shinleaf Area

The Shinleaf Area is a beautiful area of the park with primitive campsites, group campsites, and hiking trails.  There is a canoe launching area within the park.  This park has a small section of the Mountains-to-Sea-Trail.
