Falls Lake

North Carolina

Welcome to one of the most beautiful lakes in North Carolina.  Relax and stay awhile.

Falls Lake

Falls Lake is a majestic lake located in northern North Carolina located very close to the cities of Raleigh and Durham.  This peaceful lake is surrounded by huge pine trees that sit just off the banks of the lake.  With 12,000 surface acres, this is a good sized lake with plenty to do.  You will find parks and campgrounds for camping, hiking trails, biking trails, and three sandy beaches.

There are seven main parks on the lake.  Six of the parks offer camping options, but there are three main campgrounds with most of the campsites.  The three primary campgrounds are Holly Point, Shinleaf, and Rolling View parks.  Holly Point and Rolling view offer both RV camping and tent camping while Shinleaf is primarily for hikers who want to hike and carry their gear into their campsite.

One of the highlights of the lake is Beaverdam Recreation Area.  This day use area has beautiful views of the lake and plenty of picnic areas for a picnic or an afternoon at the lake.  One of the best parts of the Beaverdam area are the mountain bike trails and numerous hiking trails.  There is also a very nice swim beach and a playground.  You will also find a boat ramp within the park.  If you are looking for a great place to have a picnic, you can enjoy many of the picnic tables that are shaded by the huge trees and look out over the beautiful lake.

More Falls Lake Information

Rolling View Marina is the primary marina located on Falls Lake.  This marina offers boat slips and storage as well as marine services.  There are canoes, kayaks, and paddle boards available for daily rentals.  If you want to keep your boat on the lake or service it near the lake, Rolling View Marina will be able to help you out.

Anglers are attracted to the plentiful population of bass, bluegill, catfish, and crappie.  Spring fishing season when the bass are spawning is often called magical by local anglers.  If you see shad running along the banks, it is time to stop and catch some bass.  There is great fishing all over Falls Lake given the artificial reefs and continuous stocking of the lake to maintain a healthy population of fish.

The beauty and serenity of Falls Lake is unlike anything else you will find in North Carolina.  This is a wonderful place to go for the day, weekend, or week.  Just bring a camping chair and find a spot along the bank and drop a line in the water.  Then sit back and relax and enjoy the surroundings.

If you are camping, you will be able to relax under the shade of the many pine trees that reach up and touch the sky.  You can build a fire and make some delicious s’mores.  Just relax and enjoy the outdoors.

Falls Lake is perfect for fishing, boating, hiking, biking, swimming, camping, and so much more.
